Trilobites
Order Asaphida Suborder Asaphina Superfamily Asaphoidea, Family
Asaphidae
Geologic Age: Middle Ordovician
Trilobite
is 24 mm long
Ninemile Shale, Eureka County, Nevada
Remark: This trilobite shows the typical effacement,
or loss of detail, to the exoskeleton seen in many asaphids. The flattened
leading
edge
of the
cephalon and trailing edge of the pygidium may helped keep
the trilobite at the surface of a silty seafloor.
