Chengjiang Maotianshan Shales - Quiongzhusi Section, Yu’anshan Member,
Heilinpu Formation, Ercaicun Village, Anning, Kunming, Yunnan Province,
China
Remarks: The Chengjiang Maotianshan Shales is a Burgess Shale-like deposit
with amazing faunal diversity of fossils preserving soft tissue. The Lobopodians
were small marine and terrestrial animals informally called velvet
worms. Velvet worms are extant, and all recent forms are
terrestrial. Lobopodians were marine, and mainly
from the Cambrian. Was
trilobite exoskeleton origins from a lobopodian or a similar animal to
this?
